This week in Hedgehog Class we explored a beautiful flowers and bees theme through a range of hands‑on, imaginative activities. The children enjoyed cutting out flowers and playing with real flowers kindly donated by staff from their gardens. These activities supported their fine‑motor control, creative expression and ability to explore the natural world. During our flower hunt around the school grounds, the children practised observing closely, noticing similarities and differences, and using new vocabulary to describe what they found.
We also worked on early maths skills by counting paper bees back to their hive. As part of our literacy and communication work, the children learnt the rhyme “Honey for you, honey for me” and enjoyed sharing imaginary honey, which encouraged language development, turn‑taking and imaginative play.
To finish, the children explored a sensory pathway linked to our class nursery rhyme activity. This supported their gross‑motor confidence, balance, coordination and ability to move safely in different ways. Across the week, the children showed curiosity, creativity and growing independence as they engaged with nature‑rich, multisensory learning experiences.
