Computing programming in Hazel

Today, the Year 1 and Year 2 class explored key programming skills linked to the primary computing curriculum. The learning focused on understanding that algorithms are a set of instructions and that programs are created by selecting and arranging commands to achieve a specific outcome.

Pupils used ScratchJr to develop their ability to create and debug simple programs. They successfully navigated the application, selected and modified backgrounds and sprites, and used a range of commands to control on-screen actions such as movement, rotation, and changes in size. This supported their understanding of how different commands produce different results.

The children demonstrated their ability to predict outcomes, follow step-by-step instructions, and begin to compare how digital tools can be used for different purposes. They also showed increasing confidence in using technology purposefully and recognised that programs must be precise to work effectively.
