In Hedgehog Class, we have been keeping as cool and calm as possible during the heatwave. The children have enjoyed a range of soothing, sensory experiences such as ice filled tuff trays, painting, and outdoor play in shaded areas, all of which supported their self regulation and wellbeing. The children took part in a variety of hands on activities that strengthened key Early Learning Goals. Threading beads helped develop fine motor skills and hand eye coordination, while a fruit themed I Spy game encouraged communication and language through new vocabulary and careful observation. Our caterpillar art, created using pom poms, supported expressive arts and design as the children explored colour and pattern.
Through our caterpillar focus, the children also deepened their understanding of the natural world, linking their play to the Understanding the World goal as they learned about life cycles and living things.
