Emergency situations – year 5

In our Year 5 PSHE Jigsaw learning, we focused on how to respond safely and responsibly in emergency situations. During this unit, the children developed important skills, including assessing a situation calmly, checking for dangers, calling for help appropriately, and placing someone into the recovery position using the correct step-by-step method. Alongside these practical abilities, they also deepened their knowledge of what constitutes an emergency, why the recovery position helps to keep a person’s airway clear, and how their actions can support someone until professional help arrives. This work links directly to the National Curriculum, which requires pupils to develop knowledge of basic first aid and skills that help keep themselves and others safe.
