Cherry Class have thoroughly enjoyed Oi Frog this term, which led us to explore Oi Dinosaurs. The children became immersed in learning about prehistoric times, engaging in imaginative play and creative activities. They created handprint mammoths and used their imagination to design magnetic dinosaurs as they engaged in imaginative play and began to represent their ideas through art and design.
Through exploring different dinosaurs, the children developed new vocabulary, showing they are learning and using a wider range of words to talk about what they know and see. They confidently named prehistoric animals and used specific language to describe the similarities and differences between dinosaur families, linking to Communication and Language skills in expressing ideas and building vocabulary.
We also enjoyed playing “Who Took the Dinosaur?”, where children asked each other questions to solve the problem. This supported Development Matters as children begin to ask questions, develop back-and-forth conversations, and learn to take turns in speaking and listening, while building social interaction skills.
At the start of the week, the children explored a new classroom layout and engaged enthusiastically in the hairdresser role-play area. Here, they demonstrated imaginative role play, cooperation with others, and developing social skills, while using talk to organise their play and take on different roles. They showed increasing confidence in speaking, reflecting strong Communication and Language development.
Overall, Cherry Class showed fantastic progress this week, particularly in their speaking, listening, imagination, and social interaction.#earlybirds
