In History this week, Year 4 Sycamore have been developing their understanding of the achievements of the earliest civilisations, focusing on Ancient Egypt as part of their depth study.
The children explored the social hierarchy of Ancient Egypt, identifying the different roles within society and understanding how these groups contributed to the civilisation. Through a practical cutting-and-sticking activity, they constructed their own Egyptian social pyramids, supporting their understanding of how societies were structured and organised.
To extend their learning, pupils then compared Ancient Egypt with Ancient Sumer. Using Canva, they created digital posters that highlighted similarities and differences between the two, applying key historical concepts such as similarity, difference and significance.
This learning enabled pupils to deepen their knowledge of early civilisations while also developing their ability to draw comparisons and communicate historical understanding using appropriate subject-specific vocabulary.
