This week, the children have been developing their mark-making and early writing skills by finding meaningful reasons to write throughout our provision. Using their growing phonics knowledge, they enthusiastically labelled everything they could think of with sticky notes, from their nose to their toes! This helped the children make links between the sounds they know and the words they can write.
The children also used post-it notes to label their models and constructions, bringing writing into their play and giving real purpose to their mark-making. We have been busy building and reading CVC words, applying our phonics skills to segment and write simple words independently.
In our map-making provision, the children drew maps of their homes and other familiar places, adding labels to identify important features. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they use their developing knowledge of sounds to communicate their ideas through writing. We are so proud of how eagerly the children are choosing to write during their independent learning and incorporating their phonics into their play.
