This week, our scientists got hands-on (and a little bit messy!) as we explored the fascinating journey food takes through the digestive system!
We investigated the basic functions of the digestive system by carrying out a practical experiment that modelled how our teeth, stomach and intestines work together to break down and process the food we eat. Scissors became our sharp incisors, cutting the food, cups acted as our molars, crushing and grinding it, and tights represented the intestines, showing how food moves through the digestive system and how nutrients are absorbed.
The children then turned their scientific understanding into fantastic outcomes by creating their own Canva presentations, imagining themselves as a piece of food travelling through the digestive system!
They used key scientific vocabulary to explain each stage of their journey, combining their developing digital skills with clear scientific explanations.
It was brilliant to see the children being ambitious with their vocabulary, producing brilliant creative outcomes!
From mouth to intestines, our young scientists really got their teeth into this one! 🦷✨
