This week in Oak Class, we have been enjoying our focus story, Lost and Found. The children have loved retelling the story, exploring the characters’ feelings and discussing what they would pack if they were going on an adventure to Antarctica! We have also been sequencing the story, creating our own penguin friends and labelling them with our developing phonics knowledge.
In phonics, the children have continued to work hard learning new sounds and beginning to blend sounds together to read simple words. We have also been practising our handwriting and had lots of fun playing Musical Handwriting Patterns. The children moved around the chairs to music and, when the music stopped, practised a handwriting pattern on the chair in front of them. It was a fantastic way to develop mark-making skills while having fun!
In maths, we have been exploring length, mass and capacity. We have been comparing objects and using mathematical language such as longer, shorter, heavier and lighter to describe what we noticed.
Well done, Oak Class, for another wonderful week of learning! 🌟
