Science: Everyday Materials!
Today we began our new Science topic by becoming material detectives! We identified everyday materials around our classroom, including wood, glass, plastic, fabric, metal and paper, and explored the objects that are made using these materials such as tables, radiators, books and windows. This links to the Year 1 National Curriculum objective to identify and name a variety of everyday materials.
We then went on a materials hunt around school to see what other objects we could find that are made of these everyday materials, before returning to class to decide which material would be best for building a house.
We chose wood and got busy building! We discovered that wood is strong, allowing us to stack our blocks without them breaking. This helped us begin exploring the simple physical properties of materials, another key part of our Year 1 Science curriculum.
Great work Maple class!
