Year 1 – Maple

Maple Class have been diving deep into their imaginations today! After creating their very own sea creatures, the children practised adding labels to identify different features. As they worked, they used their phonics knowledge to hear and write the sounds in words, building confidence as young writers and expanding their vocabulary.

The activity gave children a chance to apply key Year 1 writing skills in a purposeful and engaging way. They practised using phonics to spell words, formed letters correctly and used their growing understanding of language to communicate their ideas. It was wonderful to see children working together, helping one another identify sounds, form letters and talk about the different features of their imaginative sea creatures. Through their creativity and collaboration, the children were developing the foundations of becoming confident, independent writers.
