Shiver me timbers! The children in Hedgehogs had a whale of a time exploring the world of Go Go Pirate Boat! 🏴☠️ They began by crafting their own pirate hats, developing their fine motor skills as they practised cutting with scissors, using tape, and adding glitter. This creative activity not only fostered expressive arts and design, but also helped the children to enhance their imaginary play.
Their adventure continued outdoors, where they transformed the playground into the high seas using a parachute as a ‘sail.’ With the climbing frame doubling as a lookout spot, they let their imaginations run wild, pretending to scout for “enemy ships” and navigate treacherous waters. This role play was a brilliant way to develop communication and language skills, as we had fun modelling pirate phrases!
In their maths input, the children embarked on a dubloon-counting adventure, using paper coins develop early mathematical skills. They even dictated messages for letters in a bottle, and made attempts to scribe them. This mark making activity proved to be an exciting and imaginative way to expand their literacy development.
To cap off their pirate themed activities, the children crafted boats out tin foil, and used straws to blow them across a tuff tray of water. This fun game encouraged controlled breathing and fine motor skills.
