The children’s nautical themed activities were a resounding success, with one of the highlights being our “I spy” adventure, where they created their own telescopes using cardboard cups and tubes. Decorating their telescopes with colourful glitter allowed them to develop their expressive arts and design skills. It also encouraged fine motor development as they engaged with this hands on activity.
Later, during a physical development session, the children were invited to use their telescopes to spy different items in their environment. This activity promoted observation skills, hand eye coordination, and gross motor movements as they moved around to explore. It was lovely to see the children’s faces light up with excitement when they realised how much fun they could have with something they had created themselves. It was such a wonderful example of independent learning and confidence building in action.
This experience beautifully supported communication and social development as the children shared their discoveries and engaged in collaborative play.
