Poems to Perform

This week, Squirrels have been exploring Poems to Perform and developing their creativity, communication and confidence through poetry. Working collaboratively, the children created a shared version of My Colours, taking turns to express their ideas, listen to others and contribute to a group outcome. This supported key targets such as building positive relationships, sharing attention and developing self-expression.

The children then created their own Caribbean Counting Poems, selecting objects from around the classroom and using these as inspiration for their writing. Through this activity, they applied English skills by generating ideas, composing and rehearsing sentences orally and performing their poems with increasing confidence. Performing their work helped develop speaking and listening skills, self-esteem and emotional resilience as they shared their ideas with their peers in a supportive environment.
