This week’s learning has centred around The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛, providing a wonderful opportunity for both imaginative play and skill development.
The children got involved with a physical development activity where they wiggled like caterpillars and fluttered like butterflies 🦋 This supported their gross motor development as they explored different ways of moving, coordination, and spatial awareness.
They also strengthened their fine motor skills through a mathmatical task in which they designed their own caterpillars. Using scissors to cut a variety of coloured shapes and carefully sticking them into place also encouraged them to develop their fine motor skills and creativity.
A particular highlight of the week was the collaborative making of a delicious fruit salad. Using child safe knives, the children chopped and tasted a selection of fruits, discussing textures, colours, and flavours as they worked. This hands on experience also supported communication and language, as some of the children shared observations. It was lovely to see them confidently trying new foods 🥰
