Striking and Fielding – Maple Class

This term in PE, we have been developing our fundamental movement skills through a variety of throwing and catching activities, in line with the PE curriculum. The children have practised both underarm and overarm throws, learning to control their movements by facing a target, stepping forward, and using their arms correctly to aim and release.

We have also been working on catching skills, focusing on tracking the ball and positioning hands and bodies to successfully receive it. The children have begun to understand how different types of throws, such as overarm, can change the speed and distance of the ball, making catching more challenging.

As part of developing agility, balance and coordination, the children have taken part in activities as fielders, moving quickly to chase and retrieve balls. They have shown great enjoyment in exploring how far they can throw and how effectively they can work as a team.

Next week, we are looking forward to building on these skills as we begin to use rackets to hit a ball, further developing hand-eye coordination, control and accuracy.
