Oak Class 🌊🐙

We’ve had a joyful and busy week in Reception as we dived into our focus book, Hooray for Fish! The children loved exploring the colourful characters and used the story as inspiration for rich discussions, descriptive language, and lots of confident sentence writing. It was wonderful to see them stretching their vocabulary and beginning to apply their phonic knowledge more independently.
In celebration of Father’s Day, the class created thoughtful cards, carefully choosing colours, messages, and decorations. This gave them a lovely opportunity to express themselves creatively while practising important fine‑motor skills.
Our animal exploration activities sparked plenty of curiosity and questioning. The children compared features, talked about habitats, and sorted animals in different ways — all brilliant early steps in understanding the world and building their confidence to share ideas.
In maths, we focused on pattern making. The children created repeating patterns using colours, shapes, and natural materials, showing growing confidence in spotting, continuing, and inventing their own sequences.
Across the week, the children demonstrated so many of the skills we nurture in Reception – from communicating clearly to exploring creatively and working with increasing independence.
