Historians in Year 4

In Year 4 Sycamore, pupils developed their understanding of Ancient Egypt in line with the Key Stage 2 history curriculum focus on early civilisations. As part of their historical enquiry, they worked collaboratively to examine a range of primary and secondary sources, including historical images. Using these sources, pupils made informed inferences about daily life in Ancient Egypt, considering aspects such as clothing, occupations, housing and social hierarchy. They annotated the images to record their observations and supported their ideas with evidence from the sources. This learning supported pupils in asking perceptive questions, interpreting evidence, and developing a secure chronological understanding of where Ancient Egypt fits within the wider timeline of early civilisations. It was excellent to see pupils demonstrating curiosity, collaborative skills and thoughtful engagement as they constructed their understanding of the past.
