Little DJs in the house.

Year 4 Birch Class had an exciting opportunity during the Shape Your Future event to explore how DJs create music, enhancing their understanding of music technology and composition. Pupils learned about a range of DJ equipment, including decks and mixers, and observed demonstrations of how sounds can be manipulated and layered.

Building on the Music curriculum, children developed skills in listening, appraising and experimenting with sound, exploring rhythm, pulse and how different tracks are combined to create new pieces. Through hands-on experience, they also practiced performing and improvising, using the decks to create their own mixes.

This experience also supported the Computing curriculum, as pupils engaged with digital technology, understanding how devices and software can be used creatively. They developed key skills such as problem-solving, sequencing and evaluating digital content.  This session fostered creativity, collaboration and confidence, giving pupils the chance to apply their learning in an engaging, real-world context.
