This week in Year 3, the children have been busy developing their musical skills as part of the KS2 music curriculum, with the exciting addition of a specialist visitor who came in to teach them ukulele.
The children began by learning how to carefully handle and hold the instrument correctly. They also explored the different parts of the ukulele, building their understanding of how it produces sound.
With support, the children were introduced to basic notes and began practising how to play them using the correct plucking technique. They showed great concentration and control when using their plucking fingers, developing their technique and musical awareness.
A highlight of the session was seeing the children confidently perform a short run of notes to the class. It was fantastic to see their growing confidence and willingness to perform in front of others—an important part of the Year 3 music curriculum.
We’re already looking forward to continuing our musical learning in next week’s lesson!
