This week in Hedgehog Class, the children explored a rich variety of sensory, creative and mathematical activities that supported key areas of their early learning.
The children loved exploring our tuff tray roads, moving vehicles around the drawn roads, bridges and parking spaces. They practised turn‑taking and shared the space with their friends.
During our bubble‑blowing activity, the children used bowls of sugar‑soap water and straws to blow bubbles onto the table. This encouraged them to follow simple instructions, control their breath and experiment with cause and effect, supporting their Physical Development (fine‑motor and oral‑motor control).
Our fruit and vegetable tuff trays were a big hit! The children explored texture, colour and taste, and were encouraged to identify the different items. This supported their vocabulary development and expressive language.
We also enjoyed a sensory tray filled with fabric flowers and water, where the children splashed, squeezed and explored freely. This open‑ended play helped the children build confidence in exploring materials.
In our creative area, the children made a collaborative art piece using cling‑film‑covered paper with paint underneath. They squished, pressed and smeared the paint in a mess‑free way, developing their fine‑motor strength, creative expression, and early mark‑making skills.
In maths we got involved with Numicon and vehicles. This hands‑on activity supported the children’s understanding of number, quantity and matching in a fun way!
