Saplings- The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Sapling Class has had a wonderful week exploring ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Over the past few weeks, the children have loved watching our caterpillars grow, form cocoons, and finally transform into beautiful butterflies this week. We enjoyed talking about the butterflies’ journey and saying a special goodbye as we released them.
The children took part in lots of creative activities inspired by the story, using the colourful illustrations to create their own caterpillar and butterfly crafts. In maths, Saplings explored repeating caterpillar patterns, and during phonics activities we clapped out syllables in different bug names.
Our ‘Bug Laboratory’ role play area was a big hit, with the children enjoying weighing bugs, comparing sizes, and discussing where different minibeasts might live.
The highlight of the week was our ‘Very Hungry Picnic’, where parents and carers joined us for an afternoon of games, face painting, and delicious food prepared by the children during the day. It was a fantastic way to celebrate a fun-filled week of learning together! #earlybirds
