Saplings have had a wonderful and engaging week, immersing themselves in the world of poetry through our text “Honey for You, Honey for Me.” The children showed great enthusiasm as they explored a range of poems, bringing them to life through creative and sensory experiences. While learning “April Showers,” we made the most of our imagination by putting on our wellies and listening carefully as ‘rain’ fell onto an umbrella. The children were fascinated by the different sounds it created and enjoyed describing what they could hear, helping to develop their listening and language skills.
We have also spent time focusing on rhyming words, encouraging the children to listen for patterns in language and think of their own rhymes. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow as they began suggesting words and recognising rhyming pairs within familiar poems.
During our exploration of “Ippy Dippy Dation,” the children engaged in meaningful discussions about road safety. They demonstrated a good understanding of how to stay safe near roads and channels, and enjoyed putting this knowledge into practice by creating their own traffic lights. This activity supported both their creative development and their awareness of the world around them.
Our outdoor area has been full of excitement as the children explored a variety of mathematical concepts through play. They enjoyed mark-making shapes using paint, experimenting with different lines and patterns. The children also investigated whether objects would float or sink, making predictions and observing the outcomes with great curiosity. In the role-play kitchen, they practiced counting skills by measuring and portioning ingredients, developing their early numeracy in a fun and practical way.
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly taking part in our marathon event. The children showed fantastic determination and energy as they ran around the field, cheering each other on before proudly crossing the finishing line. It was a joyful and celebratory moment for everyone involved. The Nursery Team were incredibly proud of all the children—our future marathon runners truly shone! #earlybirds
