As part of the Year 5 history curriculum, pupils stepped back in time this week during an immersive Ancient Greek workshop. They developed their historical enquiry skills by exploring the purpose and significance of Ancient Greek temples and learning about religious beliefs and ceremonies. Through role play and discussion, they strengthened their speaking, listening and critical thinking skills while debating ideas linked to the origins of democracy.
The children also applied their reading and decoding skills while investigating the Greek alphabet and used performance skills and historical understanding to explore Ancient Greek drama. Drawing on their design and art skills, they designed and created jewellery inspired by classical Greek patterns, making thoughtful links between historical sources and creative outcomes.
It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning that combined historical knowledge, enquiry, creativity and teamwork, with Year 5 showing excellent engagement and curiosity throughout. 🏛️🏛️🏛️
