This week in Reception we have been learning all about Arctic animals, linked to our focus story Narwhal: The Unicorn of the Sea. The children have been fascinated by discovering how animals live in very cold environments, particularly learning about the narwhal and its long, spiralled tusk. Alongside our storytelling and discussions, we enjoyed lots of creative art activities. The children designed and made their own imaginative sea creatures, carefully choosing colours and features to bring their ideas to life. This learning supported several Early Learning Goals, including Understanding the World, as the children explored animals and habitats; Communication and Language, through discussing ideas, asking questions and sharing what they had learned; and Expressive Arts and Design, by using creativity and imagination in their artwork. The art activities also helped develop fine motor skills, supporting the Physical Development ELG. The children showed great enthusiasm throughout the week and were very proud to share both their learning and their creations.
