This term in science, Year 1 and Year 2 have been learning about plants and their parts. We have been identifying and naming a variety of common wild and garden plants and observing their basic structure, including roots, stems, leaves and flowers.
Our focus moved to common wildflowers, where we worked scientifically through close observation and careful questioning. We explored different areas of the school grounds to find wildflowers, thinking about where the plants were growing and why some areas had no flowers. This helped us to understand what plants need to grow and stay healthy.
We then returned to the classroom to discuss our findings with each other, developing our skills in sharing observations and using simple scientific language. As part of our ongoing learning, we have chosen one common wildflower to observe over the term. We are excited to watch how it changes as it grows and develops, linking to the Year 2 focus on how plants change over time and the conditions they need to thrive.
