Amazing arrays! Year 1

This week in maths, Year 1 began exploring arrays as a way of sorting and organising objects into equal groups. Using ourselves, counters, cubes and everyday objects, we worked together to create rows and columns and talked about what we noticed.

We used arrays to help us count more efficiently, linking our learning to counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and to repeated addition. Children practised describing what they could see, using mathematical language such as rows, columns and groups.

It was wonderful to see such strong teamwork as the children shared their ideas, explained their thinking and solved problems together, showing growing confidence in mathematical reasoning and working collaboratively.
