The children in Hazel and Maple Class have been exploring the Great Fire of London and developing key historical skills. They have been learning about this significant event beyond living memory and investigating why the fire spread so quickly, drawing on evidence such as the wooden houses, narrow streets, and the long, hot summer of 1666.
Today brought an exciting culmination of their work — the burning of their model houses. This hands‑on experience helped the children deepen their understanding of cause and effect, observe historical concepts in action, and make meaningful links between what they have studied and what they can see for themselves.
By watching how fast the flames moved from one material to another, the children strengthened their ability to ask and answer questions, compare past conditions with today, and use their observations as historical evidence — key skills at the heart of the KS1 history curriculum. We are incredibly proud of their curiosity, careful thinking, and enthusiasm as young historians. 🔥📚
