Hazel class science

In Science, the children in Maple class have been busy exploring how weather is measured. Pupils  are expected to observe and describe the weather associated with the different seasons, helping them understand how weather changes across the year. The activities captured in the photos—using thermometers to record temperature, observing wind strength with the Beaufort scale, and measuring rainfall using both standard and homemade rain gauges—show the children developing exactly these early observational skills.

Across Key Stage 1, pupils are also required to develop their ability to work scientifically by observing closely with simple equipment, performing simple tests, gathering and recording data, and using their ideas to suggest answers to questions. The hands‑on investigations shown in the photos demonstrate the children taking real measurements, comparing results over time, and interpreting what their data reveals about the weather. Through these practical tasks, they are building confidence in recording accurate readings and beginning to understand how careful measurement helps scientists answer questions.
