Writing in Sycamore

Today in Year 4 Sycamore, the children have been exploring a variety of settings as part of their English work. They focused on describing these settings using expanded noun phrases, adding rich detail and interest to their writing. This directly supports the National Curriculum expectation for pupils to extend the range of their vocabulary and use descriptive language to enhance meaning.

This learning also prepares them for the next step in the curriculum: planning and writing their own narrative later this week. Their story will be based on the theme of power, giving them an opportunity to apply key Year 4 objectives such as organising ideas into paragraphs, using precise vocabulary choices, and composing and structuring sentences for clarity and effect.

We’re very excited to see their creativity shine as they bring these skills together in their own stories!
