Maple Class – Year 1/2

This week in Science, we continued developing our understanding of the weather and focused on exploring the wind. To support this, we also drew on our  skills by designing and making our own windsocks. The children applied key learning—such as selecting appropriate materials, cutting and joining them, and creating purposeful, functional products—to construct windsocks that would allow us to observe both the direction and strength of the wind.

Once completed, we took our windsocks outside to explore how our products work and consider how effectively they meet their intended purpose. Luckily, it was a very windy day, giving the children the perfect opportunity to observe their designs in full action and reflect on how well their choices of materials and construction methods helped their windsocks perform.
