Wonderful Woodlands Phonics!

In hedgehogs we are so proud of the progress our children are making in phonics. As part of our nursery rhyme of the week, Baa Baa Black Sheep, the children explored different sounds and rhyming words—an experience that supports early Communication and Language development. Development Matters highlights the importance of young children enjoying singing and music, copying sounds, and using vocalisations such as babbling and early speech patterns as they build the foundations for later phonics learning.

During the activity, the children made purposeful vocalisations as they attempted to sound out syllables, demonstrating early skills in listening, sound discrimination and experimenting with their voice—key elements underpinning Phase 1 phonics.

Well done, Hedgehogs! 🦔
