Nursery – Cherry class

Cherry Class have had a wonderful week exploring the story Oi Frog. The children strengthened their phonological awareness by recognising and joining in with the rhyming words in the book. They also learnt and remembered the rhyme Five Speckled Frogs, showing growing confidence in taking part in action rhymes and joining in with repeated phrases.

We explored a range of sensory experiences using frog slime, chia seeds, and peas to create our own “frog pond.” These activities supported children in developing curiosity about materials, building language to describe textures, and using their hands to explore and experiment.

Throughout the week, the children enhanced their communication and language skills through role play. Acting as vets and veterinary nurses encouraged them to use talk to organise their play, negotiate roles, and share ideas. They also discussed where different animals live, comparing similarities and differences in habitats, deepening their early understanding of the world.

We also celebrated World Book Day! The children made their own bookmarks to take home, practising fine motor control and expressing their creativity. Their fantastic costumes sparked lots of conversation, storytelling, and imaginative play.

It has been another fun-filled week of rich learning experiences. Well done, Cherries!
