From ‘Guess the reader’ assembly to reading to Hazel class, the Rowan children had fun celebrating a wonderful reading week.
Rowan class enjoyed the BBC live lesson activities which helped them understand that people enjoy reading in different ways and for different reasons. They also reflected on their own reading preferences and interests, which further developed their love for reading.
By dressing up on Friday, the children got the opportunity to display and talk about their favourite characters and books. This was an exciting and memorable way to foster a positive culture around reading. They talked about their character and this helped stimulate comprehension by deepening their understanding of plot and character development.
Rowans also took part in a “book swap” event with year five. This was a lovely opportunity to explore a range of book types and genres. It allowed them to feel confident in identifying themselves as readers and what reading materials they would like to read next. They found the event exciting as they could explore recommended books and recommended books to children of similar age.
