Maps, Mountains and more.. Year 4 Birch

Birch Class have been developing their Year 4 Geography National Curriculum skills by exploring a detailed map and locating contour lines. As they examined these lines, the children built their understanding of how geographical information is presented using maps, including the way contour lines show changes in height and reveal the shape of the land. They identified higher and lower areas, discovered how physical features such as mountains and hills are represented, and discussed what these landscapes might look like in real life. This hands‑on investigation helped deepen their knowledge of key aspects of physical geography and strengthened their confidence in using maps, symbols, and mapping conventions.
