Year 1 – Maple and Hazel

Year 1 have been number line wizards this week! The children have been developing their understanding of number and place value by working collaboratively to use number lines for counting and ordering numbers.

They have tackled the challenge of completing number lines with missing numbers, paying close attention to number order and recognising the size of the steps being counted in. The class have shown great confidence counting forwards and backwards in 1s and 10s from any given number.

We then applied our number line skills to estimating. Using their knowledge of number order and position on a number line, the children challenged a partner to estimate where a chosen number should be placed.

A fantastic week of growing confidence and fluency with number lines—well done, Year 1!
